F.V. Grechnikov was born on June 5, 1948 in the village. New Podlesnoye, Kuibyshev region. He began his career in August 1966 as a mechanic, and since October 1967 as a foreman of mechanics at the Kirov tram depot in the city of Kuibyshev.
In 1966 he entered, and in 1973 he graduated with honors from the Kuibyshev Aviation Institute named after Academician S.P. Korolyov (KuAI).
After graduating from KuAI, he worked as an engineer, assistant, and from 1974 to 1981. Deputy Dean of Faculty No. 4.
From 1981 to 1988 - Dean of the Evening Faculty of Technologies and Organization of Aviation Production, and from 1988 to 2013 - Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the Samara State Aerospace University named after Academician S.P. Korolyov (SSAU).
From 1993 to the present - Head of the Department of Metal Forming and Scientific Supervisor of the Research Laboratory "Plastic Deformation of Special Materials" SSAU.
In 1977 - defended his PhD thesis.
In 1991, he was awarded the academic title of professor.
In 1993 - defended his doctoral thesis, topic: "Development of scientific foundations and technologies for the formation of rational anisotropy of properties in sheet materials."
In 1998, he organized and headed the Volga branch of the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science named after A.A. Baikov of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and in 2000, on his initiative, the Togliatti branch of the SSAU was created at AVTOVAZ OJSC.
In 2008, he was elected a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Department of Chemistry and Materials Sciences (structural materials).
In 2016, he was elected an Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Conducts scientific research on the creation of structural materials with a given crystallography of the structure, which provides an increase in the parameters of shaping and operation of products.
He developed a version of the theory of plasticity of anisotropic media, in whose equations for the first time such elements of the structure of structural materials as crystal lattice parameters and orientational texture factors were introduced, which made it possible to create technologies for the production of materials taking into account the requirements of their operation.
He created a scientific school, within the framework of which 6 doctoral and 17 master's theses were prepared and defended.
Author of over 470 scientific papers, including 13 monographs, 27 manuals, 40 copyright certificates and patents. Scientific editor of 15 scientific collections of All-Russian and international conferences.
